How to use LUTs in Final Cut Pro

Quick answer
In Final Cut Pro, add the Custom LUT effect to your clip, then in the Video inspector open the LUT menu, choose Choose Custom LUT…, and select the .cube file.

Step by step
Add the effect
Select your clip, open the Effects browser, choose Color and double-click Custom LUT.
Load the LUT
In the Video inspector, open the LUT menu, choose Choose Custom LUT…, and select a .cube file.
Blend
Use the effect's Mix slider to soften it.
